Co-Captain
3rd year on team
Last year, I, along with ex-captain Alex Marotta, helped lead our team to great success with our MB14 car including top three in endurance and second in design – unprecedented records in our team’s history. In my second year as captain and a 4th year student in Chemical Engineering, I plan to work with the new team captain and all of the team’s subteam leaders, directors, and members to ensure we design and build our most competitive and awe-inspiring baja yet!

Administration

Adeola crop

Adeola Odusanya
Administrative Director
3rd year on team
I’m Adeola Odusanya, a third year McGill Baja Racing team member and fourth year chemical engineering student here at McGill University.  In the past, I have contributed to the team as the Body Panels Subteam Leader and this year I am the Administrative Director.  The great part about this new role is that I get the opportunity to provide support to the team in a variety of ways including building and maintaining good relations with sponsors and helping the captains manage the team’s affairs.  So far, I have learned many technical skills from MBRT, as well as the engineering design process and the power of innovation. In addition, I have learned what it means to work as a team with a common goal, and it is a great honour to be able to share ideas with such an innovative and committed group of engineers.

SamSam Donato
Technical Director
4th year on team
Hi, my name is Sam and this is my fourth year on the team. In the past I have designed our baja’s chassis, transmission and a whole bunch of other components. Being on Baja has allowed me to get my hands dirty CADing, analysing, welding, machining and all activities required to bring our Bajas to life. This year I am a technical director for the team. I will be helping make sure our team has a unified direction and vision by helping out new and old members alike with all aspects of the engineering design cycle.

StefanStefan Dragos Ipate
Technical Director
4th year on team
Heya! I’m a U3 Computer Engineering student, and I’ve been with the team from the start. After leading the Electronics Subsystem for two years, and designing the Steering last year, I’ve now taken on a supervising position, together with two other friends, in order to help and guide the team towards the best baja yet to be built!..

Thomas

Thomas Menzefricke
Technical Director
4th year on team
My name is Thomas Menzefricke. I am a fifth year Mechanical Engineering student in my fourth year of Baja. I was in charge of suspension for two years, and am now one of three Technical Directors. My job is to supervise the design process with the goal of keeping all sub team leaders on track with the team’s goals, as well as to make sure of the feasibility of their designs.

Subteam Leaders

Mathilde Crop

Mathilde Marcoux
Body Panels Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
Salut! I am a U2 mechanical engineering student, and this is my second year on the team. As the subteam leader for the body panels, I will be in charge of the car’s overall look, and finish. This year I decided to work with carbon fiber in order to create interesting shapes and curves in order to obtain well-performing and aesthetically pleasing panels.

Victor Chirila
Brakes Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
Hey! I am a U2 Mechanical Engineering student. When I joined the team last year I only had some basic knowledge in car maintenance and almost no CADing experience, but during my first year on the team I learned how to replace and care for almost every part of our Baja and I have also gained some CADing knowledge. This year I will be able to apply the skills I acquired and also continue to learn as I will be be in charge of designing the brakes system for our car. My responsibilities will be to make sure that all four wheels will lock simultaneously and that the brakes will work reliably, especially during the four hour endurance races.

.
Matt Option 2Matthew Shaheen
Drivetrain Subteam Leader
3rd year on team
Hey! Along with Linus, this year I will be in charge of the drivetrain system. Using data collected from previous cars and extensive analysis of our continuously variable transmission, or CVT for short, our goal is to design a system that performs optimally for all events of our competitions.

JustinJustin Antony
Electronics Subteam Leader
4th year on team
Hi there, I’m Justin, this years electronics subteam leader! I’m responsible for anything and everything battery operated on the car. My job includes making sure our car has all the essentials required to race, such as kill switches and brake lights. I’m also responsible for other important components, such as the data acquisition system we use in order to monitor and improve the performance of the car.

.
GregGreg Wright
Frame Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
Hello, I’m a U2 Mechanical Engineering student and this year I will be responsible for the design and manufacturing of the frame.  Since I was young, I’ve been playing with and building various off-road vehicles and being part of Baja allows me to do just that as part of a great team as well as actually following a design process.

NickNicholas Cote
Fuel System Subteam Leader
3th year on team
My name is Nicholas Cote I am a third year Mining Engineering Student and it is my 3rd year on the team. Although I am not in mechanical engineeringm I still have a small background in mechanics, as I have been a huge race fan all my life. Last year I was the Engine subteam leader as well as the designer of the firewall! This year I wish to continue improving my design skills by designing a removable gas tank to save time in the pits. I forgot to plug in that I’m the gas tank subteam leader this year!
Engine goes vroom vroom, Car goes zoom zoom.

Kevin CropKevin Qiu
Kinematics Subteam Leader
3rd year on team
Hey all, I’m Kevin, a Chemical Engineering major studying at McGill. I’ll be working on suspension kinematics this year which deals with all the fun little physics involved when you smash into a log or drift onto a road. Time for a bumpy ride!

Max CropMax Scully
Pedals and Throttle Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
I am a U2 mechanical engineering major and I joined the team last winter.  I remember reading about Baja competitions when I was 12 years old and thinking how much fun it looked like, so when I decided to join a design team I was naturally lead here. This year, while designing the pedals, I will be keeping in mind last year’s performance, packaging, ergonomics and overall efficiency. MB15 is dreaming about the top step of the podium, let’s get her there!

Ilias
Ilias Hurley
Seat Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
Hey! I’m Ilias, a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student. I joined the Baja team last year to apply skills I learned in class. This year I’ll be designing the seat. It might seem like a small system, but it’s important the drivers are supported while racing. The major goals are to design an ergonomic seat and reduce deformation from use.

Duda CropMaria Eduarda da Silva
Steering Subteam Leader
2nd year on team
I’m a U2 Mechanical Engineering student and car races have always been part of my life. The opportunity to be part of a team such as the McGill Baja is a wonderful chance to be able to see what engineering is all about! Last year I helped out a little with steering and going to competitions was not only exciting but also an amazing learning experience. This year I am will be leading the Steering Subsystem and I am looking forward to another year working with great people in order to design the best car ever!

Oli CropOliver Denis-Larocque
Suspension Subteam Leader
3rd year on team
I’m the team’s suspension director and it’s my 3rd year on the team. Knowing that a suspension is a combination of both mechanics and kinematics, I’ll be overseeing the whole subsystem, while working mostly on the mechanical design. My good friend Kevin will handle the kinematics. Together, we’ll make sure the subsystem design and manufacturing goes smoothly… or bumpy!
